Dia Davina came in 1st
place with a score of 57.0 on January 6th at the Vancouver Poetry Slam. This is
Dia's poem In Between

This
is one of my favorite slam poems. Hopefully the video I attached will work, but
if not I posted the link above or you can just go to YouTube and type in Dia
Davina-In Between. So lately I’ve had a lot of people ask me, in this class and
outside of it, what it means to be gender queer. Truth is, it is different for
everyone and it’s not always easy to explain. It is who I am and how I feel. Some
day’s I’m masculine some days I’m feminine, I’m not really sure how it works. It’s
like I’m a boy in a girl’s body sometimes and other times I’ll be the girliest
girl you’ve ever met. Anyway, the video above is Dia Davina performing her poem
In Between, and it has been my favorite poem for a while now. I can really connect
and relate to her experiences, thoughts, and feelings about being gender queer,
or being in between genders, and loving yourself for it. I hope it gives you a
little insight into her life, mine, and what it’s like to be gender queer.
Enjoy!
